Upcoming Enrollment.

Newborn screening programs in seven initial states and territories (hereafter referred to collectively as “states”) have been selected to participate in BEACONS. The states are: Iowa, Minnesota, New York, Oregon, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, and Texas. These programs were selected after an extensive review process. They have varied prior experiences in genomic screening, and represent a broad range of geographic regions. Additional states may join in future phases.

Participant enrollment will start after community and ethical review processes are complete. Participation in BEACONS is voluntary, consented, and separate from routine newborn screening. Routine newborn screening remains unchanged whether or not families participate in BEACONS.
